| The Bacolod City Legal Enforcement Team is conducting demolition in Purok Mahimulaton, Brgy. Banago, Bacolod City to clear the area of remaining structures.
Legal Officer 3 Vicente Petierre III said the dredging operation being conducted by the city in the area to address the flooding problem is also ongoing. He said almost all of the 54 structures in Purok Mahimulaton have been demolished by the residents themselves and there are only two or three structures with posts and walls made of concrete materials that need to be removed.
After the demolition, the dredging machine can penetrate the area, Petierre said. He also noted that there are many sacks containing empty seashells along the mouth of the river that have to be removed since these hamper the operation of the dredger, he said.
The Bacolod City government had rented the Watermaster dredging machine of Sipalay City to work on the waterways of the city to address its flood problem.
Petierre said the City Engineer's Office has proposed the widening of the mouth of the Banago River and this will be taken up in a meeting. He also said that only those who have chosen to be relocated to the Kimara site and the boulevard have been given financial assistance by the city.
Meanwhile, Councilor Greg Gasataya, chairman of the Committee on Environment and Ecology, said the garbage collection in the city was affected last week due to the road condition leading to the Felisa dumpsite. Because of the problem, he said the city had to limit the number of trips of the garbage trucks entering the dumpsite last Thursday and Friday.
Gasataya said the City Engineer's Office has started to repair the road Monday. He said the road is part of the private property owned by the Lopez family. He said the road condition caused some of the dump trucks to tilt and then load of garbage to spill along the way to the dumpsite.*CGS
