| The Negros Occidental Football Association has drawn up a tentative schedule for its activities for 2008 spiced up by a two new events – a street soccer festival and a 7-a-side men's under-19 and open tournament – on top of the monthly grassroots football festivals.
The activities kick off on Jan. 12 when NOFA stages the Central leg of the grassroots football festival at the University of Negros Occidental-Recoletos field.
The Southern leg in Cauayan town and the Northern leg, set in Victorias City , is scheduled on Jan. 19 and 26, respectively.
Also set this month is the resumption of the Men's Under-19 Provincial Championships at the Manuel Torres Sports Center pitch in Bago City .
The remaining quarterfinal and semifinal match and championship game is scheduled Jan. 13 and 20, respectively.
University of La Salle had clinched the first finals berth when it blanked home team Bago City , 2-0, in a match marred by crowd trouble last month but has threatened to back out of the tournament if the games remain in Bago and unless proper security measures are undertaken.
Early semifinalist West Negros College is still waiting for the winner of the San Carlos-Don Bosco Technical Institute match, which was also postponed indefinitely.
Another set of football festivals are set at the USLS pitch, Pulupandan football field and Cadiz City in February, when a media seminar will also be held.
In March, it will be Don Bosco Technical Institute's turn to host the Northern Area football festival, while the Southern leg goes to Himamaylan and the Central leg shifts to Bacolod City National High School .
The summer football league in San Carlos also kicks off in March.
April will be marked by the NOFA football festival provincial finals at the Panaad stadium and the national certificate coaching course in the NOFA regional football center in Bago from April 13-17.
The NOFA men's under-19 and open 7-a-side tournament is scheduled April 26-27.
A referees' refresher course will be held from May 2-4 at the NOFA regional center in Bago.
The street soccer central area leg will be held at the SM Bacolod in June 14. Action shifts to Valladolid the following week for the Southern leg, while Silay hosts the Northern leg.
The 2008 NOFA men's under-19 tournament will be held in August, the same month an inter-school event is hosted by San Carlos City Football Club.
The grassroots street soccer championship takes centerstage in Bacolod in September.
The 2008 NOFA men's open finals is scheduled from Dec. 1-7 either at the Panaad Park and Stadium or the Paglaum Sports Complex.*CPT
