Gov. Marañon going on
leave, doc orders rest
BY CARLA GOMEZ

Negros Occidental Gov. Joseph Marañon, who continues to work from his home, has been advised by his doctors to go on leave and get some rest, his chief of staff Jose Ma. Valencia said yesterday.

The governor has lost weight due to lack of appetite, and his doctors are trying to determine its cause, Valencia said.

Valencia denied reports that Marañon was hospitalized, saying he only went to the Riverside Medial Center in Bacolod City on Sunday for an ultrasound test and returned home immediately.

His doctor, Jesus Perez, from St. Luke's Hospital in Quezon City was in town during the weekend so he checked on the governor and ordered the ultrasound, Valencia explained.

In fact the governor appears to have regained some of his appetite lately, Valencia said.

The governor continues to do his work from his home, Valencia and Provincial Administrator Enrique Pinongan said. Papers to be gone over and signed by him are being brought to his house, they said.

The governor wants to report for work at the Capitol but has been advised by his doctors to take some time off, Valencia said.

Starting Thursday the governor will go on official leave for about two weeks on doctors advice, Valencia said.

Pinongan said the leave will be from Jan. 10 to 25.*CPG
