IN SAN CARLOS
Rape suspect apprehended

A person arrested for a pending case for theft, was also tagged as a suspect in the hold-up and molestation of a minor in San Carlos City , Negros Occidental, last week, the police said yesterday.

Supt. Harold Tuzon yesterday said John Mark Mantos, for whom a warrant of arrest for the crime of theft was issued by Judge Franklin Cobol, was recently apprehended at Rizal Street in Brgy. 3, San Carlos City .

Tuzon said Mantos was positively identified to be one of the two suspects who had robbed and raped a minor at the Center Mall in Brgy. Palampas, in San Carlos , last week.

Police investigations show that Mantos and his unidentified companion, one of whom was armed with a knife, accosted the minor and his companion and took their cellular phones.

Tuzon said Mantos and his companion also took turns in molesting the minor.

San Carlos police investigators have filed additional charges of rape and robbery against Mantos who is now locked up in jail, and his companion who remains at-large.*GPB

in molestation case

The Bacolod police yesterday said that they are still searching for the rape suspect who escaped from a police precinct at about 7:30 p.m. Friday, despite a possible settlement between the man and his alleged victim.

Shun gambling while
on duty, city cops told

Bacolod City Police Office director, Senior Supt. Ronilo Quebrar, yesterday warned his men against engaging in illegal gambling, especially while on duty in the wake of an investigation of Sipalay City policemen for gambling at their precinct last week.

Quebrar told his personnel that if caught in similar actions they will be dealt with “drastically.”

Three Sipalay police officers and their station commander are now being investigated on orders of Negros Occidental Police Office director, Rosendo Franco, after a television crew caught them playing the card game “tong-its” while on duty last week.

In a message to the 10 BCPO police station commanders, Quebrar said all city police officers must be at their posts and in proper uniform while on duty.*PP
