| Eighteen police generals are expected to retire this year, among them Chief Supt. Wilfredo Dulay, regional police director of Western Visayas, who reaches the mandatory retirement age of 56 on Feb. 14.
Dulay may retire next month yet, but Chief Supt. Samuel Pagdilao, former PNP spokesman, has already been re-assigned to Western Visayas , possibly in preparation for taking over the regional police command.
Pagdilao was designated as the deputy regional police director of Western Visayas , which is the number two position in the regional police hierarchy. His former position was taken over by Senior Supt. Nicanor Bartolome.
Chief Supt. Jun Caccam, who used to be the PNP Firearms and Explosives Office chief, is also among the candidates to the position to be vacated by Dulay.
Police Director Edgardo Doromel of Sagay City , chief of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group, is also set to retire Feb. 9.
The retirement of the 18 police generals may also cause a major reshuffling of regional police directors and those occupying key staff positions at Camp Crame .
Among those who may affected, aside from Dulay, are Chief Supt. Leopoldo Bataoil, Ilocos regional police director, who is due for promotion to Police Director, Chief Supt. Isagani Cuevas, former deputy regional police director for Western Visayas, who is being groomed for Region 13 police director.
PNP chief Avelino Razon is also set to retire Sept. 27, while Chief Supt. Joel Goltiao, regional police director of Autonomous Region for Muslim Mindanao, will also retire on Sept. 19, police records also showed.
