| The International Basketball Academy , a program of the National Basketball Training Center , will conduct tryouts among top high school players in Negros Occidental on Feb. 9 at St. John's Institute gymnasium for its “Elite Basketball Camp” to be held in Manila in March.
IBA is a Philippine-based sports organization which advocates the development of the Filipino youth in basketball. It is spearheaded by multi-titled coach and player Eric Altamirano, now program head of NBTC. The Academy is comprised of an A-list of who's who in Philippine cage history.
It aims to bring amateur basketball to unchartered heights by honing players, coaches and officials in becoming world-class competitors.
Altamirano and IBA project director Alex Compton are going around all over the country, conducting tryouts for participants in the first and only comprehensive basketball camp.
After the tryouts, the best of the best will be selected and brought to Manila for the all-expense paid basketball camp featuring the top 80 players in the country.
The camp will run for six days at Brent International School in Laguna on March 14-19, 2008.
Earlier, Altamirano said the program envisions a pool of basketball talents aged 14-19 who will be trained for future RP squads. He also said that the program is patterned after the basketball trainings in Europe and China.*NAB
