| The Negros Occidental and Bacolod City governments are set to hold necrological services for former Negros Occidental Governor and Bacolod City Mayor Alfredo Montelibano Jr. next week.
The Bacolod Sanggunian yesterday passed a resolution extending its deepest condolence and sympathy to the family of Montelibano.
The resolution, authored by Councilor Catalino Alisbo, said Montelibano's “legacy of genuine and dedicate public service and leadership should be extolled by all, especially the next generation.”
The former governor and mayor will be buried at the Montelibano Family Mausoleum at Hacienda Binitin, Murcia , after a 9 a.m. mass on Jan. 12, a schedule released by family liaison officers Roger las Piñas and Roque Hofilena Jr. said yesterday.
Meanwhile, Montelibano will lie in state at the USLS chapel until Sunday, Jan. 6, and masses are scheduled at 6 p.m.
At 8:30 a.m. Monday, Jan. 7, his remains will be brought to the Immaculate Conception Parish Church in Barangay Villamonte, Bacolod City , where the community will join a mass at 9:30 a.m. and a brief necrological ceremony. At 6 p.m. a novena will be held to be followed by a vigil.
At 8:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 8, his remains will be transferred to the Provincial Capitol Social Hall in Bacolod City where a mass and necrological ceremony will be offered by the provincial government of Negros Occidental, followed by a vigil.
And at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday his remains will be transferred to the Bacolod BAYS Center where the city government will offer a mass followed by a vigil.
At 9 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 9, the city government will also hold a necrological service at BAYS Center followed by a vigil.
Montelibano's remains will be brought back to the USLS Chapel at 4 p.m. Wednesday where masses will be held at 6 p.m. on Thursday and Friday, Jan. 10 and 11.
On Saturday, Jan. 12, his remains will be brought to Hacienda Binitin in a funeral cortege that will start from the USLS chapel at 5:30 a.m.
Montelibano was governor of Negros Occidental from 1968 to 1986 and mayor of Bacolod from 1988 to 1995.
Biodata furnished by Hofileña showed that he established the Negros Occidental Provincial Community College , Technological University of the Philippines Visayas in Talisay City , Paglaum Sports Complex, Paglaum Village , Negros Occidental Rehabilitation Center for the Disabled, the Drug Rehabilitation Center at Paglaum Village and Reach Foundation Center .
The Bacolod Boy's Home was also developed and improvements to the Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital were made during his governorship.
And as mayor of Bacolod City he also saw to the building of the BAYS Center , the Villamonte gym and numerous roads.
He was also named outstanding provincial governor of the Philippines on Jan. 6, 1969 and outstanding mayor of the Philippines on Jan.6, 1991, his biodata showed.*CPG
