The Sangguniang Panlalawigan of Negros Occidental yesterday confirmed the re-election of Gitano, barangay captain of Antipolo, Pontevedra, as representative of the ABC to the provincial council, Vice Governor Isidro Zayco said.

Joedith Gallego (Silay City) was also elected provincial Liga vice president, Clemente de la Peña (Murcia) – secretary, Ramon Yulo (Bago City) – treasurer, Francisco Mamigo (Cauayan) – auditor.

Members of the Board of Directors are Oscar Yulo (Hinigaran), Jacob Liansing (La Carlota City), Alandrino Lumayno (Escalante), Alexander Palanca ( Victorias ), and Wilfredo Cervantes ( Cadiz City ).

The re-election of Gitano was certified by Mary Joy Madayag, provincial officer of the Department of Interior and Local Government in Negros Occidental, Zayco said.

Gitano is now on his second term as an ex-oficio member of the Sangguniang Panlalawigan, representing the 600-strong Liga ng mga Barangay organization in the provincial council.

Meanwhile, Valenzuela, Brgy. Captain of Estefania, Bacolod City , garnered 36 votes over his rival Brgy. Captain Jose Antonio Gensoli of Vista Alegre who got 25 votes during the Liga election in Bacolod City on Dec. 29.

Elected Liga vice president was Rommel Diaz of Brgy. 22 and Carlos Montaño of Tangub for auditor, while the board of directors are Brgy. Captains Alexander Diamante of Taculing, Hermilo LIzares – Brgy. 40, Renato Claver – Brgy. 38, Ricardo Sayson – Sum-ag, Zenaida Lacson – Brgy. 32, Elvis Agsam – Mandalagan, Degie Tanista Sr. – Alangilan and Rufino Alcala – Punta Taytay.

Valenzuela said he will try to unite the officials of the 61 barangays of Bacolod during his term.

He will give priority to the implementation of the Solid Waste Management program in the barangay level, he said.

We will try to study through a lakbay aral, how other local governments implement their SWM program and adopt what they have learned in their respective barangays, Valenzuela added.

Valenzuela said he believes he was able to convince the barangays captains to support him because of his experience, having been the Liga vice president for two terms. He said election is over and they should work for the good of Bacolod City.*GPB/CGS
