Hambabalud Festival
retains Buglasan crown

The Hambabalud Festival of Jimalalud, Negros Oriental, retained its Buglasan Festival of Festivals crown by beating four entries in the 2007 competition held Thursday at the Sidlakang Negros Village , Barangay Piapi, Dumaguete City .

The Parol Festival of Santa Catalina placed second; Tawo-Tawo Festival of Bayawan City , third; while the fourth place went to the Langub Festival of Mabinay.

Majority of the special awards, such as best in costume, street dancing, best entourage were also won by Jimalalud, whose representative also bagged the Buglasan King award, best in costume, best speaker, and was best performer.

3 men slain in Canlaon

Three men, one of them a member of a militant group, were shot dead before the year 2007 ended in Canlaon City .

Records from the Negros Oriental Police Provincial Office showed yesterday that two of the victims were killed by unknown suspects Saturday night in Purok Bayabas, Barangay Lumapao, Canlaon City .

The dead were identified as Juancho Tejada Pabalinas, 33, single, a farmer, of Purok Mangga, Brgy. Lumapao, Canlaon and a certain “Dongcoy,” of Tayasan town.

Civilian injured by cop

A member of the Canlaon City police station in Negros Oriental was restricted for shooting a civilian at about 8:45 a.m. Wednesday in Sitio Alibabay, Brgy. Mabigo, in Canlaon.

Police reports yesterday identified the victim as Noli Marquez, 49, married, of Sitio Alibabay, Canlaon and the suspect was PO3 Johnny Himuta Dagohoy.

Investigation revealed that Dagohoy was riding his motorcycle on his way home to Brgy. Aquino when he saw Marquez, armed with a kitchen's knife and scythe, and allegedly under the influence of intoxicating liquor.
