SEAG 2007 medalists
to receive incentives
BY MARICAR ARANAS

Nine athletes from Negros Oriental who bagged medals during the recent Southeast Asian Games held in Thailand will be given P57,000 in incentives.

Gov. Emilio Macias II yesterday said this is to honor them for giving pride to the province and the country.

SEAG gold medalists from Negros Oriental were Joey Barba for cycling; Maristela Torres, long jump; and Jennifer Chan, archery women's compound bow.

Mioelle Gabaligno won silver in women's rowing double category, and the bronze medalists were Mark Javier and Wayne Larsen for men's archery; Romnick Ghai Pabalate - muay thai; and Michael Jorolan - water polo.

Sports coordinator Buddy Ravello said they will give the incentives when the athletes come home to the province, adding that they hope the amount will help the recipients strive to do better in the next competitions.

Meanwhile, Macias said he is planning to revive the Negros Oriental Sports Development program, to help in the athletes' training, and encourage the young to engage in sports.*MA
