Moises Padilla council pushes
for increase in local tax rates

The Sangguniang Bayan of Moises Padilla is pushing for increase in municipal taxes and conducting a series of consultations on the proposal.

Vice Mayor Cipriano Remo said in a press release that there is a need to increase the local taxes to improve the delivery of basic services and to fund various projects.

He said that Moises Padilla has not increased its taxes for the past ten years although the Local Government Code states that local taxes should be increased every five years.

But what is being proposed is only a ten percent increase instead of 20 percent, Remo said

Mayor Francisco Nazareno, who was present in the recent public hearing at the town plaza, said in the press release that among the priorities of his administration is the improvement of the water system, but said the water fees will only increase minimally.

Councilor Dolly Yasa said that while there are items that will be increased, there are also services whose fees will be waived, such as consultation, which was previously at P10.

Natural birth delivery will also be free but the mandatory newborn screening will have a fee of P600 but will also be reduced depending on the financial capacity of the patient, the press release added.*
