‘13 nabbed,
burglaries drop’

BY PATRICK PANGILINAN

The Bacolod police yesterday said there are  fewer  burglaries and hold-ups in the city with the recent arrest of several suspects allegedly involved in separate robberies.

Thirteen men nabbed by different police stations and with cases ranging from use of rugby, robbery, to frustrated murder, were presented to the media at the Bacolod City Police Office.

BCPO director, Senior Supt. Ronilo Quebrar, said the presentation was proof of their campaign against crimes and to show that “there is no deterioration of peace and order” in the city.

One of the suspects, Henry Diaz, 19, said he is prepared to face the possible six years in jail  that could be meted to him for robbing a woman at knifepoint in Brgy. Mansilingan on Feb. 19.

Diaz, a trisikad driver, admitted to doing the crime, saying his meager income pushed him to do so.

Mark Remy Bille, another detainee, insisted  on his innocence, five days after he and two of his companions were arrested by Police Station 4 members for alleged possession of marijuana and a .38 caliber revolver.

Bille, 24, had earlier claimed the gun and the matchbox with marijuana leaves seized from him were not his, saying the officers found nothing from them even after repeated frisking.

Apart from the items supposedly recovered from him and his friends, however, Bille also has pending robbery charges, police records show.

Also among the 13 was Mamerto de la Cruz, 30, of Purok Kawayan, Brgy. Bacong, Bago City, Negros Occidental, who was arrested by Police Station 1 officers for alleged possession of a homemade 12-gauge modified shotgun at the Bacolod public plaza around noon Wednesday, police reports said.

Police Station 1 commander, Chief Inspector Noel Manaay, said De la Cruz had been pinpointed by several complainants as the one who held them up, including Indian businessmen.

De la Cruz also has pending frustrated murder charges in Bago City, Manaay said.

The suspect, however, said his only violation was his possession of a fake handgun.

The other suspects were Rolito Guerrero, Romulo Torres, Duyle Togorres, Randy Jimenez, Rony Dumdum, Mark Alojamento, Jay-R Flores, Antony Buenafe, George Gonzales, Roy Laneres, and Joeber Pamon.*PP
