X BAC, D Axial prevail

X BAC bucked the absence of center Edgar Espares and point guard Rommel Hofileña to pull off a 91-71 upset over BACIWA in the last game of the two-round elimination of Basketball Unified Sports Group quadrangular meet at Lopue’s South Square gym.

With only five players available, X BAC’s coach Bing Soyao was forced to play for two quarters as his team had to endure an opening 10-0 blast, before Zaldy Navarra, Biboy Java and Henry Doble responded with a 20-0 salvo of their own.

It was all X BAC from there as Melvin Baclay and Nene Lapore contributed in snuffing out the challenge from Baciwa.

In the other game, D’Axial Engineering prevailed once again over Tangub Riders, 70-67, with five Engineers finishing the game with double digit scores. The Riders tried to play catch up but came up short in the endgame.

Semi final games today pit X BAC against BACIWA at 6:30 p.m. while D’Axial Engineering will face Tangub Riders at 8 p.m.

Top two teams will have a twice-to-beat advantage with the championship match initially scheduled on March 7.*
