BY JUANCHO GALLARDE

The Court of Appeals in Cebu is set to hear the Writ of Amparo petition filed by relatives of two farmers in Negros Oriental who allegedly disappeared after they were abducted by troopers of the 61st Infantry Battalion on Dec. 7, 2007 and Jan. 25 this year.

The petitioners urged the appellate court to summon Armed Forces chief of staff Gen. Hermogenes Esperon; commanding officer of the AFP Central Command Lt. Gen. Victor Ibrado; 61st IB commanding officer Lt. Col. Romeo Basco; 61st IB Bravo Company head, a certain 2Lt Pututan; 1Lt Rodrigo Jimena;and army soldiers surnamed Dequit and Santos.

Rosalia Yanoc is asking the respondents to produce the living body of her husband Reynold Carillo.

Her husband was taken by 61st IB soldiers on Dec. 7 last year, from Sitio Avocado, Barangay Talalak, Sta. Catalina town, on suspicion that he is a member of the Communist Party of the Philippines-New People’s Army, she said.

The Court of Appeals is also scheduled to hear the Writ of Amparo petition filed by Carmen Arante against the same respondents, including Maj. Nathaniel Villasor, civil military operations officer of the 303rd Infantry Brigade based in Murcia town, Negros Occidental, and certain sergeants Alfaparas and Canlanga.

Arante also wants them to produce the living body of her husband Flaviano Arante, who she claimed was abducted by army soldiers from their place in Nagbinlod, Sta. Catalina on Jan. 25.*JG
