Bais dad opposes JAPEX oil exploration anew

The Bais City government is protesting the continued oil exploration by the Japan Exploration firm at the Tañon Strait, even as the 40-day extension granted to JAPEX has yet to expire.

Mayor Hector Villanueva said yesterday that he will continue to oppose the activity, and he may even seek an authority from the Sangguniang Panlungsod for the filing of a criminal complaint against agencies responsible for the oil exploration.

Electricity bourse ready to operate in the Visayas Region

The Philippine Electricity Market Board, the governing body of the Wholesale Electricity Spot Market, in a meeting held Friday in Cebu City, has certified the technical readiness of the electricity bourse to begin commercial operations in the Visayas Region.

The endorsement will be transmitted to the Department of Energy and the market launch is expected shortly.

Executive Vice President Mario Pangilinan of PEMC said they have achieved technical readiness, and only need DoE advice for the launching..

Paris showcase

Three of the popular beach resorts in Negros Oriental have taken on the challenge to explore the bustling European market with their participation in the Department of Tourism-led Philippine delegation to the recent 10th Salon de la Plongee sous Marine, in Paris.

Tourism Secretary Joseph Ace Durano led the Philippine delegation of 10 tourism-related groups, which included Antulang Beach Resort, Atlantis Resort, and Bajura Resort, all in southern Negros Oriental.

The scuba diving exhibit, renowned as one of the largest international diving trade shows and scuba exhibitions held this month in Paris, France, showcased 402 exhibitors from 40 countries, drawing close to 40,000 visitors and more than 200 journalists covering the event.
