Churches urged to join
inter-faith rally Friday

BY NIDA BUENAFE

The Negros Regional Ecumenical Council is encouraging its member churches to join in the inter-faith rally in Bacolod City on Feb. 29 that calls for the truth behind the ZTE-NBN deal exposed by witness Rodolfo “Jun” Lozada Jr.

Rev. Reuel Norman Marigza said the NREC is a council of protestant churches in Negros island affiliated with the other churches of different religious denominations in the country.

He said they are joining the nationwide call for the government to come out with the truth and for all Filipinos to support the communal and collective action of exposing corruption in the present administration.

Marigza said NREC believes that those who participated in the aborted NBN-ZTE deal and those who failed to stop the transaction have lost the moral ascendancy to govern the people.

In a statement, the group urged Commission on Higher Education chairman Romulo Neri to come out with the truth instead of hiding under the skirt of “executive privilege.”

NREC said that Neri should realized that his loyalty to President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo ends where his loyalty to the country and the Filipino people begins.

The group added that corruption and greed have become a social cancer in the Philippine society and that the present administration has taken its corrupt practices to the limits of what is “acceptable”.

The greed, through kickbacks and commissions, has become so acceptable that it is no longer questioned but instead “moderated” so as not to draw attention to itself, the NREC statement added.*NAB
