West Negros lauded
for university status

BY NIDA BUENAFE

Officials from the government, academe, church and military lauded West Negros University for its new academic status in a launching ceremony held yesterday at the school’s gymnasium.

Bacolod City Mayor Evelio Leonardia said West Negros has been part of the growth and development of the city with thousands of graduates finding employment in different establishments in Bacolod.

Leonardia said he had witnessed how the school metamorphosed into a prestigious academic institution and the university status is an honor it fittingly deserves.

Armed Forces of the Philippines Central Command commandeer Lt. Gen. Victor Ibrado said he is proud to have spent his early college years in the engineering department of West Negros.

Paying tribute to the school administrators who stirred the school to its university status, Ibrado said he is proud to be a Wesnecan.

Also present during the ceremony was Central Philippine University Vice President for Administration Rev. Joniel Howard Gico who expressed support to the community and academic programs of WNU.

Representing Bacolod Bishop Vicente Navarra, Vicar General Victorino Rivas said the school lives up to its slogan “Veritas, Virtu” which means truth and virtue in promoting quality Christian education among its students.

Meanwhile, WNU president Suzette Agustin expressed her appreciation and gratitude to the past presidents and administrators of the school in its journey to become a university.

She said that the new status of West Negros provides great opportunities and limitless possibilities to all Wesnecans.*NAB
