| Former militiaman
collared for drugs
A former militiaman is now locked up in jail after being arrested for violation of RA 9165, or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002, in Brgy. Rizal, Silay City, Negros Occidental.
Supt. Roderick Alba, Silay police chief, yesterday said drug charges will be filed today against the suspect identified as ex-CAFGU member Rudy Alterado.
The arrest of Alterado came a day after operatives of the Anti-Illegal Drugs Special Operations Task Force also nabbed Sammy Binas in Brgy. Mambulac, in Silay, also for drugs.
Alba said Alterado initially escaped during a buy-bust operation on Feb. 22 at Villa Hergon in Brgy. Rizal, Silay. However, he was arrested on Saturday during a pursuit operation after the police raided his residence in the place, by virtue of a search warrant issued by Judge Felipe Banzon.
The raid at the house of Alterado yielded a sachet of suspected shabu and another plastic sachet containing traces of the banned substance.
On the other hand, the raid at the house of Binas also yielded 29 suspected marijuana cigarets, as well as P243 in cash believed to be proceeds from the sale of prohibited drugs.
Alterado and Binas are now detained at the police station jail of Silay.*GPB

Minor facing homicide-try raps
The police yesterday said they are poised to file frustrated homicide charges against a 17-year-old boy tagged in the attack on a bar patron in Bacolod City, as social workers vowed to put him back in custody after his escape Sunday.
Police Station 2 commander, Senior Inspector Luisito Acebuche, said they will lodge the charges against the teenager from Brgy. 7, Bacolod, who allegedly stabbed Raymond Ramos in a riot at 17th Street, Bacolod, at about 10 p.m. Saturday.
The scuffle happened shortly after a confrontation between Ramos and the minor’s respective groups at the People’s Village at 22nd Street, Bacolod, police records show.
Sally Abelarde, officer-in-charge of the Bacolod Social Services and Development, meanwhile, said, they are working to get the minor back into their custody so he could undergo rehabilitation.
The suspect had escaped from the SDC, which is under the DSSD, in Brgy. Taculing, Bacolod, at noon Sunday a few hours after Police Station 2 members endorsed him there, Melanie Jison, a house parent at the facility, said.
Although SDC house parents try to cater to the needs of all the children endorsed there, Abelarde said some of their wards occasionally flee the compound.
She said the center’s four house parents, who work in shifts, can only do so much in caring for the big number of children under them.
As of yesterday, more than 70 teenagers were under the custody of the SDC, she said.
With their proposal for improvements in their facilities still pending with the city government, they are now working with what is available and through coordination with the barangays from where the children under them come, Abelarde said.
Meanwhile, Acebuche said they have talked to his family but there are no signs yet that the minor will surrender.*PP

Brothers ijured in shooting
Two brothers were shot and stabbed by two men in Brgy. Pinggot, Ilog, Negros Occidental, on Sunday, in an incident which was allegedly triggered by misunderstanding, the police said yesterday.
Senior Inspector Gabriel Gutierrez, Ilog police chief, identified the injured victims as July Tamonan and his brother, who is a minor.
Gutierrez said the elder Tamonan was shot allegedly by Ricky Castro, while the minor was stabbed in the back by Ku-ing Castro.
July, who was also shot allegedly in the back twice by Ricky, and his younger brother, however, survived, and are now being treated at the Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Hospital in Bacolod City.
Gutierrez said the two suspects remain at-large as of this time, but charges are being readied for filing against them.*GPB
