Bacolod SP backs
Senate NBN hearings

BY CHRYSEE SAMILLANO

The Bacolod Sangguniang Panlungsod passed a unanimous resolution last week calling on the Senate to support the continuation of the hearing and investigations of the NBN-ZTE broadband deal in the search for truth and accountability and transparency in government.

The resolution was proposed by Councilor Celia Flor.

Flor said they are calling for the continuation of the hearing of the anomalous broadband deal in the Senate despite the fact that there is already a case filed before the Office of the Ombudsman because they believe the Senate is more credible, while the Ombudsman has a different objective.

The investigation of the Ombudsman is questionable because it did not act on the case for several months, Flor said. It only started its investigation when Joey De Venecia came out and because they saw that the people were already reacting, she said. They believe the Ombudsman investigation is blocking the Senate inquiry, she added.

In the case of Rodolfo Lozada Jr., she said, one can see how the government uses its resources, tantamount to kidnapping, just to cover up its anomalies.

Flor said she hopes the people will wake up and not remain apathetic. “If all of us believe that each one can do something, then we can do something and say this problem has a resolution,” she also said.*CGS
