Solo art exhibit
opens March 15

Artist Anthony Fermin will open his 19th solo art exhibit at the Moravia Gallery Bar Upper Italia Restaurant at B.S. Aquino Drive, Bacolod City on March 15 that will run until April 8.

This is the 6th exhibit in Bacolod City of Fermin, 31, who comes from a family of artists and is married to Evan Abalona of E.B. Magalona. He has painted professionally for 14 years and has exhibited in other countries like Germany, Spain and France.

His artworks depict the Negros culture and its scenes in oil, acrylic and mixed media. The exhibit includes functional art and furniture he created.

He said he has decided to transfer to Bacolod after residing in Cebu for almost 11 years.

Fermin said that aside from the Negrense culture and food, what he likes most is the warm welcome and support he received from the people during his first solo exhibit in Bacolod in 2001 at Robinson’s Place. The exhibit was entitled “Embracing Negros.”

Meanwhile, the Art Association of Bacolod has an ongoing group exhibit at the Moravia Gallery Bar entitled “Love of My Life”, which runs until March 10.*CGS

Pilgrims set to arrive
 for St. Therese visit

The relics of St. Therese of the Child Jesus will arrive in Bacolod City 1 p.m. March 4, and will be brought to Kabankalan City, in Negros Occidental on March 6, a press release from pilgrimage organizers said.

Pilgrims from Zamboanga and the Diocese of San Carlos, Negros Occidental, led by Bishop Jose Advincula, will bring the relics for a two-day, three-night visit in the province.

The Zamboanga delegation will offer mass at 3 p.m. on March 5, and the San Carlos group at 6 p.m., March 6, both to be held at the chapel of the Carmelite Monastery in Bacolod, the center of the activities, the press release said.

The Bacolod visit is part of the worldwide pilgrimage of the relics of St. Therese, who was declared a doctor of the Catholic Church in 1997. The relics are housed in the Carmelite Monastery in Lisieux, France, where the saint spent her last nine years as a cloistered nun, the press release said.

The Catholic church has 33 doctors, three of them women, including St. Therese who is the youngest.  She was declared a saint and doctor largely because of her autobiography, The “Story of a Soul,” which she wrote on orders of her superiors.

The Secretariat of the organizing group for the visit can be reached through Tel. No. 476-1435, the press release added.*
