A 14-year-old boy killed himself in Bacolod City Saturday, barely a week after two men also hanged themselves in separate incidents in Negros Occidental.
The family of Emmanuel Tubera, 14, told investigators they still do not know why he decided to end his life. His body was found in an abandoned hut beside his grandparents’ house in Zone 11, Brgy. Handumanan, Bacolod, at about 2:15 p.m. Saturday, PO3 Hernando Pasino of Police Station 10, said yesterda
Although an autopsy report has not yet been released, Pasino said plain observation showed that Tubera had killed himself when he was found hanging on the wooden truss of the old hut where he usually stays alone.
There was no suicide note and only a cigaret butt and the plastic chair that Tubera used to climb up to hang himself were found in the hut, the investigator said.
The DAILY STAR tried to reach the boy’s family yesterday morning but attendants at the Alisbo Memorial Chapels said they have not gone there yet and his remains were still being prepared.
Tubera’s grandfather, Felix Magbanua, however, told Pasino that his grandson was silent and often in deep thought.
The teenager was expelled from the Handumanan National High School in August last year along with other students for alleged knife possession and he had a history of rugby use but Pasino said this could not necessarily have triggered the suicide.
On February 18, a fish farm caretaker in Pontevedra town also hanged himself over unpaid debts, according to the police.
The suicide happened a day after the body of a 21-year-old trisikad driver, who had also apparently killed himself, was found in Brgy. Estefania, in Bacolod.*PP
