| World of Fun crushed Bapro, 109-91, Saturday night to complete an elimination-round sweep of the 8th Tan Kek Pin Cup Memorial Basketball Tournament at the Po Hang Gym of Bacolod Tay Tung High School.
Former Most Valuable Player Warren Alintano pumped in 18 of his 27 points in the second period, before Robbie Jalando-on took over in the third period to break the game wide open for WOF, which finished the first round with a 5-0 record.
From a slim 56-53 lead, WOF turned it up a notch with Jalando-on draining three treys. He got help from Bobot Divinagracia who scored on two daring drives that made it 65-59.
Arvin Gustilo and Arnel Castillo added 11 apiece for World of Fun, while Bapro which remained winless in five starts was led by Tommy Andren and Badong Eufre with 15 and 13 points, respectively.
The win also clinched for WOF the No. 1 slot and the automatic semifinal seat that goes along with it in Class A. Talisay, at 3-1, is also assured of a semis seat since it will finish as the No. 2 team.
The four bottom teams --- Province, BBC, Probac and Bapro --- will play in the knockout phase to determine who joins WOF and Talisay in the semis.
In Class B play, Sam's Gym rallied past Marco Metals, 90-84, and secured the No. 2 slot in Group 2. With the win, Sam's advanced to the knockout stage of the quarterfinals, where it will meet the winner of the Amspec-Panasonic showdown tonight.
Christian Castro starred with 20 points, including 14 in the opening period, although it wasn't until the fourth period that Sam's finally caught up with Marco.
Jason Yap also delivered some decisive baskets in the fourth period, finishing with 7 points. Also finishing in double-figures for Sam's were Brad Hojilla with 13 and Mark Cueva with 10.
Jesper Laborte paced Marco with 16, while Walter Snook and Michael Cagatalan added 13 and 10, respectively.
The elimination round will end today with Meguiar's Streetwash facing Rentas Knights. The winner will meet Café Breizh in the quarterfinals. *CPT
