Cold storage facility

Installation of P800,000 cold storage facility in City fish terminal

The Department of Agriculture will install a 20-footer double chamber cold storage facility at the Dumaguete Fish Terminal next month,   Market Enterprise chief Jose Ronnie Fortin said.

He said the P800,000 storage  facility  was given  through  a  grant  from  the  DA, whose representatives visited the city recently, to  finalize  the  requirements  for  the installation.

The grant was the biggest received by the city from the DA thus far, Fortin said, adding that the facility will support the Bagsakan Center for fish, fruits and vegetables and meat.

Dumaguete was also first in Central Visayas to be given the financial support.

At present, the city public market has no such facility for other unsold perishable items. A scheme will be implemented, however, to accommodate most of the market vendors.

Fortin said Agriculture Secretary Arthur Yap will sign a Memorandum  of  Agreement  with  Dumaguete  City  Mayor  Agustin  Perdices at the turnover of the facility.*MA
