3 collared for possession
of marijuana, police say

Three persons, including a robbery suspect, are now facing illegal drug charges after they were arrested for alleged possession of marijuana in Bacolod City, during a chase early morning yesterday, the police said.

Illegal drug possession raps were filed against Mark Remy Bille, 24, Jhonny Caburnay, 25, and Jun-Jun Garcia, 19, at the City Prosecutor’s Office yesterday, Police Station 4 commander, Chief Inspector Santiago Rapiz, said.

An illegal gun possession case was also lodged against Bille, he said.

The three were nabbed by Rapiz and Police Station 4 members PO2’s Christopher Sarinopia, and Michael Ferrer, after brief chase from Rizal Street to Gonzaga Extension, in Bacolod, at about 2:10 a.m. yesterday, Rapiz said.

Recovered from Bille, police said, were a homemade .38 caliber revolver with four bullets, and a matchbox with an undetermined amount of marijuana leaves, while Caburnay and Garcia were allegedly found to each have a stick of the same prohibited plant in their possession, police reports said.

Bille has a standing arrest warrant for robbery issued by Regional Trial Court Branch 51 Judge Anita Chua with a P50,000 bail for his temporary liberty, police records show.

He was arrested by Police Station 6 officers last year for robbing a school teacher and firing a gun at a vendor near the Libertad Public Market in Bacolod, but was released on probation, the police said.

Rapiz said they were patrolling near Rizal Street when they received a call that the suspects were engaged in a confrontation with a group of tanods at Rizal Street.

The three, who were on a motorcycle, fled upon seeing the officers, but were eventually cornered at Gonzaga Extension, he said.

They, however, claimed that nothing was recovered from them during their apprehension, even after repeated frisking by the officers.

Bille said they were out to accompany Garcia home when they had a confrontation with a drunken man who was with the group of tanods.

He admitted to engaging in robbery before but added that he has since renewed his life.

The three said they are willing to be fingerprinted and to undergo drug tests to prove the gun and the marijuana leaves allegedly confiscated from them were not theirs.

Meanwhile, Judy Inopia, 38, of Purok Nangka, Brgy. 3, in Bacolod, was arrested by Police Station 2 officers led by PO2 Richard Delasa for alleged possession of an 11-inch knife during a routine patrol along B.S. Aquino Drive, at about 1:20 a.m. yesterday, SPO2 Ernesto Ontanillas, said.*PP

IN SILAY
Drug ‘pusher’ nabbed

Operatives of the Anti-Illegal Drugs Special Operations Task Force yesterday arrested an alleged marijuana pusher during a raid in Silay City, Negros Occidental.

Armed with a search warrant issued by Judge Reynaldo Alon, an AIDSOTF team headed by Senior Inspector Rico Santotome raided the house of Sammy Binas in Sitio Dacutan, Brgy. Mambulac, in Silay.

Santotome said the raid led to the arrest of Binas and the confiscation of 29 suspected marijuana cigarets, as well as P243 in cash believed to be proceeds from the sale of prohibited drugs.

He said the raid was made in coordination with the Silay police force, and witnessed by Mambulac barangay officials. However, a source at the Silay police said they were only informed while the search operation was already ongoing at the house of the suspect.

Binas is now detained at the police station jail of Silay City.*GPB
