WNC nursing grad 5th placer

A graduate from West Negros College placed fifth in the Nursing Licensure Examination for first timers, repeaters, removals and voluntary retakers of all subjects, given by the Board of Nursing in the cities of Manila, Baguio, Cagayan de Oro, Cebu, Davao, Iloilo, Legazpi, Lucena, Tacloban, Tuguegarao and Zamboanga in December 2007.

Joann Aguilar Candado of WNC scored 86.20 in the examination where 28,924 passed out of the 67,728 examinees or a national passing rate of 43.45 percent passing rate, results from the Professional Regulation Commission show.

She shared the No. 5 honors with Betty Chua Chung of University of Makati, and Leslie Yap Coo of Central Philippine University in Iloilo. Ranked No. 1 was Zandra Mae Zabaza Bongco of Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila who got a score of 88.40.

Candado is from Cebu who opted to study nursing as a second course at West Negros, clinical instructor George Dela Cruz said. The school was recently granted a university status by the Commission on Higher Education.

Despite her impressive performance in the board examination, West Negros’ registered a passing rate of 39 percent with 419 out its 1,086 examinees hurdling the test.

Fellowship Baptist College in Kabankalan led the Negros Occidental’s nursing schools in the overall ranking with its 74 passing percentage as 50 out of its 76 examinees passed the exam.

University of St. La Salle registered a passing rate of 64 percent as 130 out of 202 examinees passed the test, while Colegio San Agustin-Bacolod scored 41 percent passing rate as 209 out of its 354 examinees were successful in the board examination.

University of Negros Occidental-Recoletos, whose examinees comprised the first graduates of its nursing department, posted a 50 percent percentage as 153 out of 308 students passed the test, while Riverside College got a 42 percent rating with 328 out of its 779 examinees passing and Central Philippine Adventist College in Murcia with 41 percent (13 out 32 examinees).

Silliman University led the schools in the Visayas area with its 97 percent rating while both Central Philippine University and West Visayas State University registered 93 percent passing score.

Passing rate of nursing schools in Iloilo: University of San Agustin-Iloilo, 82 percent; Saint Paul University-Iloilo, 80 percent; Iloilo Doctors College, 52 percent, and University of Iloilo, 38 percent.*NAB
