DepEd exec
hits project shelving

BY JUANCHO GALLARDE

Division superintendent Licerio Napao of the Negros Oriental Department of Education said Wednesday he is saddened by President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo’s decision to hold in abeyance the Cyber Education project.

He said he would rather have the investigation on the controversial national broadband network deal with ZTE of China stop, so the country can buckle down to work, in order to improve the lot of students.

Napao said the cyber education project is imperative if the country is to catch up with the latest technology in learning and enhance the skills of students.

He said he is toying with the idea of another project and forget about ZTE.

Napao replaced officer-in-charge Dr. Victoria Galgo in the DepEd in Negros Oriental, and has only six months before his retirement.

He said he wants to establish a system that will help low performing schools in national achievement tests.

There are now about 20 elementary and secondary schools in the province that need concentration in order to increase their Mean Percentage Score, Napao pointed out.*JG
