National food summit set April 4

The Department of Agriculture will hold a National Food Summit on April 4 to tackle the country’s farm sector growth by harmonizing the national government’s food sufficiency program with those of the local government units and private sector stakeholders, the DA said in a press release.

Secretary Arthur Yap said in the press release that through the food summit, the DA  sees to synchronized efforts pertaining to raising farm yields, attracting investments and creating jobs in the countryside, and stabilizing the supply and prices of basic foodstuff.

Part of the national food summit is the series of area-wide consultations this month until March with multi-sectoral stakeholders.

NHA unveils program
for illegal occupants

The National Housing Authority has launched the program, “Ang Pirma Mo, Pabahay Sa ‘Yo,” that awards an NHA property to beneficiaries considered as illegal occupants, a government press release said.

NHA Memorandum Circular 2136 or the revised guidelines for the legalization of occupants on NHA properties allows families to obtain an award for those who are illegally occupying NHA-owned properties.

It also covers applicants for legal occupation who are officially listed on the list of illegal occupants submitted to the Area Management Office, Estate Management Department on March 31, 2008.

Reps of rural, thrift banks
attend SME credit training

Representatives of rural banks and thrift banks in the Visayas attended the 10-day SME Credit Appraisal and Monitoring Training in Bacolod City launched by the Small and Medium Enterprise Development for Sustainable Employment Program.  

The fee-based training, which ends today, provides the banks with tools on innovative cash flow-based approach to SM lending to increase their business volume with the SME sector. 

It is being implemented by the University of the Philippines-Institute for Small Scale Industries in cooperation with the Financial Services Component of the GTZ Private Sector Promotion Program, SMEDSEP.
