Rebels injured in
encounter, military says
BY GILBERT BAYORAN

The military yesterday claimed that scores of rebels were injured in an encounter with Army Scout Rangers Tuesday in Sitio Harvey, Brgy. Minapasok, Calatrava.

Maj. Nathaniel Villasor, 303 rd Infantry Brigade Civil Military Operations chief, yesterday said traces of bloodstains were seen along the withdrawal route of the rebels, who fled after almost 20 minutes of gunbattle with soldiers.

Villasor said the presence of an undetermined number of rebels in the sitio was relayed to patrolling troopers of the 2 nd Scout Ranger Company by civilians, and this led to a firefight.

Soldiers recovered five combat packs containing personal belongings, three sacks of rice, a tarpaulin, a pair of combat shoes and a fatigue uniform, at the encounter site, he said.

Villasor also said no one among the soldiers was injured in the gunbattle.

Pursuit operations on the fleeing rebels believed to be members of the NPA Larangan Gerilya 6 in northern Negros , were still ongoing yesterday.*GPB
