makes youth squad

Jairold Flores, a 6-foot-3 find from Murcia , Negros Occidental, has been named one of the members of the Philippine Youth Team, which has gained big corporate support in its quest for international glory.

Flores, a former volleyball player before he was spotted by basketball scout Dexter Dy, is currently a senior at Iloilo Commercial Central High School .

“He is a muscular power forward who jumps very high. He is very athletic,” Dy said of Flores, who is being eyed by University of the East, University of Sto . Tomas, Far Eastern University, University of Perpetual Help.

The youth squad also includes Iloilo 's John Ray Sumido, younger brother of West Negros University Mustang Jetric Sumido.

Jairold and John Rey Sumido are the only players from Western Visayas to make the youth team being handled by De La Salle University coach Franz Pumaren.

The RP youth players will train in the Abunassar Impact Basketball Camp in Carson City, California, before debuting in the Southeast Asian Basketball Association youth tournament in Kuala Lumpur on May 1.*CPT
