City Hall tackles concerns
of vendors in Bonifacio St

Bacolod City Mayor Evelio Leonardia and Composite Enforcement Unit In-charge Sonny Petierre yesterday met with sidewalk vendors occupying Bonifacio Street yesterday to discuss the concerns of the group, the mayor's office said.

Discussed were the garbage problem in Bonifacio Street and downtown area, water supply, suggested uniforms for the Enforcement Unit, and uniform tables for the vendors.

The mayor's office said the vendors were amenable to Leonardia's suggestion that their garbage will be collected at 8:30 p.m. which coincides with the schedule of the Department of Public Services.

The City Engineer's Office will also be asked to fix the drainage system of the Central Market. The vendors also requested that the comfort rooms in the market be kept open even after 8 p.m.

Leonardia, who assured the vendors on their concerns over water supply, also suggested that the sidewalk vendors use uniform tables and set up in 1 x 1 meter stalls.

At the meeting, the mayor was joined by Josephus Zerna of the DPS, executive assistants Ernie Pineda and Valentine Jamelo and architect Lemuel Reynaldo of the City Planning and Development Office, the mayor's office said.

The city government had closed Bonifacio Street , supposedly only from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. , to accommodate about 200 fish vendors who had earlier occupied Luzurriaga and Gatuslao streets.

But Councilor Alex Paglumotan, chairman of the committee on markets, said the closure of Bonifacio Street , after it raised a howl from business establishments along the area, will be temporary and experimental.*NLG
