The campaign against the proliferation of firearms and to discourage promotion for love of guns and violence that is being waged by the military and police, yesterday elicited support from Bacolod Bishop Vicente Navarra.

Navarra, who witnessed yesterday the ceremonial demilitarization of confiscated and surrendered firearms at Camp Alfredo Montelibano Sr. in Bacolod City , commended the military for initiating the activity.

“We don't need those firearms. They only inculcate violence,” the Bacolod bishop said. moremoremore

on people power anniversary

A “massive” multi-sectoral rally on the 22 nd anniversary of the EDSA People Power Revolt will be held at the Bacolod Public Plaza Monday afternoon to air further support for Senate witness Rodolfo Lozada and to call on former National Economic and Development Authority chief Romulo Neri to come out and speak the truth.

Bacolod Bishop Vicente Navarra is calling on the public to join the rally Monday on the theme “Seek the truth, rise up to corruption, redeem our nation” and other build-up activities leading to it.

Fr. Aniceto Buenafe, director of the Social Action Center of the Diocese of Bacolod, said Navarra convened multi-sectoral representatives Monday to map out plans for the rally to call on the government to allow the truth to be told on the controversial National Broadband Network deal. moremoremore

Alisbo seeks report on
dumptrucks deal

A resolution requesting the Bids and Awards Committee to submit a report to the Sangguniang Panlungsod on the purchase of the 10-wheeler dump trucks by the city is being proposed by Bacolod Councilor Catalino Alisbo.

The resolution said that the SP, through its different committees and in the spirit of transparency, should look into the reported alleged irregularity in the purchase of the vehicles for the Solid Waste Management program of the city.

Mayor Evelio Leonardia wrote the Commercial Motors Corporation, the supplier of the 10 dump trucks, that, the city is recalling the award for the purchase of the vehicles pending the result of an investigation. moremoremore
