‘Forensic evidence
key to killing of girl'
BY PATRICK PANGILINAN

Forensic evidence and the statements of witnesses will be the key things investigators will rely on in solving another child-killing incident in Bacolod City Wednesday, the police said yesterday.

Police Station 7 commander, Senior Inspector Danilo Francisco, said they are counting on the results of the autopsy conducted on the body of Jasmine Lampinid, 3, yesterday, to build their case against a suspect in her killing.

Lampinid was found inside a sack by scavengers at a marshy area in Magsungay, Brgy. Singcang-Airport, in Bacolod , at about 3 p.m. Wednesday, Police Station 8 case investigator, PO2 Rolito Flores, said.

Her father, Joser, had reported her missing to Police Station 7 Monday.

Francisco said the official autopsy conducted by a Negros Occidental Police Office medico legal officer will show whether the girl was raped and whether her killer was the one who cut her head and feet.

Plain observation could show the girl may have been sexually-molested but only the examination report could prove it, Francisco said.

He added the autopsy report would also say if decomposition had caused the girl's head and feet to separate from the rest of her body or if the killer did it.

It will also help them tag the suspect who, Francisco said, had been pinpointed by the child's family, but whose identity they did not divulge yet.

He also said they hope to find witnesses who could corroborate reports that a man had been seen near the place where Lampinid's body was found.

Lampinid's mother, Milagros, called on people who may have knowledge about the suspect's activities.

On November 23 last year, the body of nine-year-old Roselyn Elumba was found by her family members in a sugarcane field in Purok Tagong Paraiso, Brgy, Banago, in Bacolod .

Although the family and the police had identified a certain Gerry Douglas Patoreto as the one last seen with Elumba, the suspect remains at large.

Flores , meanwhile, said, they will assist Francisco's group in the investigation because the minor's body was found within their area.

Lampinid's body was reportedly buried at the public cemetery in Brgy. Handumanan yesterday.*PP
