| A multi-sectoral convention of Bantay Bata 163-Negros was held at the Governor's Hall of the Provincial Capitol, in Bacolod City , recently, a press release from the organization said.
Legal counsel of Bantay Bata 163 Eric Mallonga, and Iloilo-Negros program manager Mary Grace Solinap were the guest speakers.
Present were representatives from local government units in Negros Occidental, non-government organizations, schools, hospitals, companies and other private organizations, the press release said.
Activities set for this year in Negros Occidental will include the 1-6-3 hotline and rescue operations of children who are victims of abuse.
The convention tackled the most prevalent social issue affecting abused children, and the laws and the criminal justice system to answer the problem, among others, the press release added.*

Art exhibit ongoing
A g roup art exhibit called " Untitled " opened yesterday and will run until Feb. 29, at the 2nd level, Robinsons Place , Mandalagan, in Bacolod City , a press release from organizers said.
Participating artists said this is their contribution to the National Arts Month celebration, and is presented by Puwersa Pintura, an organization of Fine Arts students of La Consolacion College-Bacolod, and the Painting Legion.
The exhibit showcases paintings, sculptures, photography and mixed media works of Rameses Aloro, Christine Benedicto, Guenevere Decena, Jose Innocencio, Lawrence Mangaw, Robynne Mangubat, Tristram Miravalles, Bopep Montinola, Jingle Pagunsan, Michael John Pama, Juan Rosalia, Charlotte Rodriguez, Jerome Suplemento, Mark Anthony Tacsagon, Ruel Jay Talanguenes, Dominique Tanudra, Jayson Tolentino, Julian Velasco and Trisha Villanueva, the press release said.

Teener needs help
The parents of an 11-year-old girl from Purok Riverside, Brgy. Ma-ao, Bago City , Negros Occidental are seeking the help of DAILY STAR readers for their daughter who was diagnosed to have thalassemia, and needs blood transfusion every two months, at the Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital , in Bacolod City .
Rhoda Mae Guilaran, 11, was admitted at the CLMMRH on Jan. 19 and discharged Jan. 22, but she urgently needs blood transfusion for a speedy recovery, medical records showed.
The girl has been suffering the condition since she was four months old, medical records added.
The patient's mother, Emelia, 42, is a housewife and her father, Melvin, 39, is a trisikad driver.*GCT

Negros Kaisa donates books
The Negros Kaisa, a chapter of Kaisa Para Sa Kaunlaran founded by Teresita Ang See, recently donated several books to the city library of Bacolod , located at Libertad-Araneta streets, Dr. Lily Go said yesterday.
City librarian Greta Memoria received the books, witnessed by Bacolod first lady Elsa Leonardia.
Also present were Negros Kaisa president Lily Go, James Chua, Luis Chan, William Ong, Alfredo Barcelona, Greta Memoria, Teresa Gochangco, Mary Tian, and Gloria Barcelona.
The materials donated included a coffee table book entitled “Tsinoy: The Story of the Chinese in Philippine Life.” edited by See and Bon Juan Go. The book traces Philippine history, from the point of view of the Chinese-Filipino.
Negros Kaisa had earlier donated a copy of the same book to the Negros Museum , and to the Negros Press Club.
