Women groups in Dumaguete are helping a first-termer city councilor draft an ordinance to address the concerns of women and children in the city.
Councilor Amy Dicen discussed provisions of her proposal to create the Local Council for Women and Children in Dumaguete at a committee meeting Tuesday, that covered the Anti-Trafficking of Humans under Republic Act 9208, and Republic Act 9262, or the Domestic Violence Against Women and Children's Act.
Present at the meeting at the Women Center in Tinago were representative from the Gender Watch against Violence, Cecille Hoffman, Laome Quijote of the Department of Social Welfare and Development, city health officer Dr. Ma. Sarah Tala, Dr. Phoebe Tan of the Silliman Center for Women studies, June Clavano of the population commission office, and representatives from the Department of Interior and Local Government, and city agriculture officer Inday Tero.*JG
