Security beefed up
at Silay City airport

The Silay police force in Negros Occidental, which is helping the Aviation Security Group in securing the newly-opened airport of international standard in the city, will get 10 more new policemen, next week.

This brought to 72 the number of policemen, including the seven-man Special Weapons and Tactics team, assigned in Silay, police chief Supt. Roderick Alba said yesterday.

Senior Supt. Rosendo Franco, police provincial director, said the 10 new policemen to be assigned in Silay starting Monday next week, form part of the 20 policemen deployed from the 6 th Regional Mobile Group.

Franco said the 10 other policemen will be distributed to undermanned city and municipal police stations in the province.

Silay Mayor Jose Montelibano had earlier told Franco of his plans to beef up the mobility of the Silay police force, by acquisition of motorcycles.

The airport in Silay is also being secured outside its perimeter by a company-sized unit of the 6 th Regional Mobile Group, that has its headquarters about two kilometers from the site.

Police records show that the airport was raided and bombed by suspected New People's Army rebels in October 2006, with damage pegged by authorities at P50 million.

An increase to two teams is also planned for the Silay SWAT after Montelibano promised last year to purchase more high-powered firearms for them.

The Philippine Air Force, assisted by the provincial government, is now looking for a site at Silay airport, to be used as headquarters of the Composite Air Support Force 6 and housing facilities for its helicopter gunships.

Franco also started to re-assign Police Officers 1 and police inspectors assigned at Camp Alfredo Montelibano Sr. in Bacolod City, to different police stations.*GPB

The police are still investigating two stabbing incidents that left one person dead and four others injured in Bacolod City , late Wednesday and yesterday.

Jay Mongcal, 19, died of stab wounds at the Riverside Medical Center more than an hour after he, Ace Pelieder, 20, and Richard Gorres, 18, were brought there for treatment at about 2 a.m. yesterday, police reports said.

Mongcal of Hacienda Silverio, Hinigaran town, Pelieder of Carmenville Subdivision, Brgy. Mansilingan, and Gorres of Brgy. Bangkerohan, Cadiz City , all in Negros Occidental, were stabbed by still unidentified persons after a confrontation, police records show.

In his report, Police Station 2 case investigator, SPO1 Hermilo Jalandoni, said the three had a confrontation with the suspects at the Warehauz Restobar at 21st Streets, in Bacolod before the scuffle at San Agustin Street , in Bacolod , later.

The pub's bouncer, told investigators he tried to dissuade Mongcal's group from leaving after the confrontation, knowing that the other group was waiting for them outside, but failed.

Police Station 2 commander, Senior Inspector Luisito Acebuche, said they are looking into the possibility of identifying the suspects through the security camera of the bar.

Meanwhile, Ruel Bisca, 18, and Michael Malongayon, 26, were also brought to the RMC after they were stabbed by Marlon Cordova outside the People's Village at 22nd Street , in Bacolod , at about 11:45 p.m. Wednesday, police reports said.

Cordova, 27, was arrested by Police Station 2 members, PO2s Jorlito Roldan, Roberto Guilaran and police trainees, after the incident.

The suspect said he just defended himself after Bisca, Malongayon, and their two other companions ganged up on him while he and his two friends were at the exit of the business establishment.

Cordova said the four may have been angered after realizing that the singer that they were eyeing was his friend's girlfriend.*PP
