TO TRAIN BOXERS IN BACOLOD , OTHER SOUTHERN PROVINCES
BY CEDELF TUPAS

As far as Bacolod Rep. Monico Puentevella is concerned, it doesn't matter who between the two Cuban coaches hired by the Philippine Sports Commission will be based in Bacolod City to train boxers in the province.

Puentevella, who has strongly pushed for one of the two Cuban coaches in Bacolod to strengthen the boxing program in the Visayas and Mindanao , said he will discuss the matter with Philippine Sports Commission chairman William Ramirez and Amateur boxing chief Manny Lopez.

The two coaches are Juan Enrique Steyners Tissert and Dagoberto Rojas Scott. They belong to a pool of coaches outside of Cuba 's national boxing program but Lopez said the two have the experience and expertise to help the country's boxing program

‘PFF SHOULD NOT
MEDDLE IN COACH'S DECISIONS'
BY CEDELF TUPAS

Former Rep. Carlos Cojuangco, president of the Negros Occidental Football Association, has met the appointment of Norman Fegidero Jr. with a degree of caution and wants the Philippine Football Federation to deal with the new national coach in the most proper way.

Cojuangco said he supports the selection of Fegidero Jr. as coach of the national team that will see action in the Asian Challenge Cup in Bacolod from May 11-18.

But Cojuangco stressed that Fegidero should be given a free hand in making decisions related to the squad, especially in the composition of players for the national team, and should be “protected” during his tenure.

Denied thrice as a player, Boyet
hopes to win title as SLR coach

As a PBA player from 1993 up to the 2004-05 season, playing for Sta. Lucia, Alaska and Purefoods, Negrense Boyet Fernandez never got to taste a championship.

Thrice, the Valladolid-born player-turned-coach played in the Finals – for Alaska in the 1997 Commissioner's Cup against Gordon's Gin and with Purefoods in the 2000 All-Filipino Cup against Alaska and in the Governors Cup against San Miguel Beer. Each time, his team lost.

As the Realtors' current head coach, he now has a chance to finally win a ring, not just for himself but for a Sta. Lucia team – his first and last team in the PBA as a player.
