PNP: Gunmen in killing
of security officer known

The police reported a breakthrough yesterday in identifying the two gunmen behind the killing of a chief security officer assigned at the Southern Negros Development Corp. Sugar Central in Kabankalan City , Negros Occidental.

Supt. Calixto Mabugat, Kabankalan police chief, however, refused to reveal the identities of two suspects, pending follow up operations but said the motive may have been related to his job.

Serafin Nunez, chief security officer of Lanting Security Agency detained at SONEDCO Sugar Central, was shot dead by two unidentified gunmen on Tuesday in Brgy. Linao, Kabankalan City .

Mabugat said the gunmen also took the 9mm pistol, a two-way radio handset and a cellular phone of Nunez, before fleeing.

The victim sustained a gunshot wound behind his left ear when he was shot at SONEDCO sugar central compound.

Mabugat said the suspects may have been mad at Nunez for strictly implementing the management policy against those arrested for stealing scrap iron at the sugar central.

Initial police investigations showed that one of the suspects served as a look-out, while the other shot Nunez.*GPB
