Policemen probing
spate of killings
BY JUANCHO GALALRDE

Police are probing the spate of killings in Dumaguete City that have taken place in less than two weeks.

The latest casualties were SPO2 Avito Arabe of Barangay Camanjac, Tiburcio Torres of Bantayan, and Anecito Silot of Motong, in Dumaguete.

Policemen under Supt. Dionardo Carlos said they are still looking for leads to identify the assassins.

Arabe, an investigator of the Bacong police station in Negros Oriental, was gunned down by unknown suspects 8 p.m. Feb. 5 while he was on his way home to Brgy. Motong, Dumaguete.

Killed on Saturday, with three gunshot wounds, was Eduardo Torres who was drinking with friends at La Tienda Rovira in Bantayan when he was shot.

Anecito Silot was shot dead Monday night while driving a motorcycle along Aldecoa Road , Barangay Daro. He died of four gunshot wounds in the body, police said.

The motive in the killing of Torres could be personal gain as the suspects took his laptop and wallet.

Meanwhile, the suspect in the shooting in Talay has been identified as Joel Alviola, uncle of brothers Rene, Reden and Rodene, all surnamed Desamo who filed the complaint, police also said.

Investigators added that a member of the “CRIPS” gang could be responsible for the shooting at San Jose Street last week.*JG
