| Stakeholders of the local information and communications technology sector met with officials of the medical transcription industry in Manila last Monday to discuss plans to bring jobs and investments and technology transfer opportunities to Bacolod and Negros Occidental.
Councilor Jocelle Batapa-Sigue, chairperson of the Bacolod-Negros Occidental Federation for ICT Inc., said their meeting with Myla Reyes, president of the Medical Transcription Industry Association of the Philippines Inc., and her colleagues, including Talent Development Committee chairperson Evelyn Abat, was held at the e-Services Philippines Global Sourcing Conference and Exhibitions at the SMX Convention Center in Manila.
Batapa-Sigue said BNEFIT pointed out to MTIAPI that their main objective is to promote Bacolod as one of the new wave cities for outsourcing and offshore industries.
She said both parties agreed to conduct a series of comprehensive roadshows next month to introduce opportunities in the medical transcription industry to Negrenses.
The activities will highlight the industry linkages with local investors, government, private and business sector, academe, she said.
The roadshows will enable MTIAPI, an alliance of the country's MT companies and leaders, to show the growth of the Philippine MT industry that is already recognized by its US counterpart.
Mary Tolentino, chairperson of the IT Schools Network of Negros Occidental, there is a need to develop a good assessment tool to determine the quality of MT trainings in the country so that the required labor pool is met.
Batapa-Sigue said also plans to meet with representatives from the academe to discuss the integration of basic MT skills and knowledge in the general curriculum.*NLG
