Cuevas new PNP reg'l chief
BY GILBERT BAYORAN

It is Chief Supt. Isagani Cuevas who will be the new regional police director of Western Visayas , not Chief Supt. Samuel Pagdilao who was reported earlier to be almost sure to get the position.

Cuevas, who reportedly got the backing of Justice Secretary Raul Gonzales and five governors of Panay and Guimaras, will replace Chief Supt. Wilfredo Dulay who will retire on Feb. 14 at the mandatory age of 56.

Pagdilao who was re-assigned as deputy regional director for Administration of the Western Visayas police on Jan. 1, was earlier groomed to be the successor of Dulay as Western Visayas police director.

National Capital Region police Director Geary Barias yesterday said Pagdilao will assume the post to be vacated by Cuevas as deputy regional director for Operations of the NCR Police Office.

Cuevas is a member of the Philippine Military Academy Class '77, while Pagdilao belongs to PMA Class '79.

Deputy Director General Emmanuel Carta, chief of the PNP directorial staff, will preside over the turnover of the PRO6 command between Dulay and Cuevas at 9 a.m. today in Iloilo City .

Police records show that Cuevas was assigned in Western Visayas for about 10 years as provincial police director of Iloilo and various key positions at the Police Regional Office 6 headquarters in Iloilo City .

Dulay is among the 18 police generals set to retire this year.

Police Director Edgardo Doromal of Sagay City , retired from the police service on Feb. 9. He was replaced by Chief Supt. Raul Castaneda as director of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group.

Other police general-retirees are PNP chief Avelino Razon, Deputy Director General Reynaldo Varilla, Chief Supt. Joel Goltiao, Directors Reynold Osia, Jaime Caringal, Eliseo de la Paz, Chief Supt. Maximo Calimlim, Victor Oao, Ricardo Ver, Ireneo Manaois, Ameto Tolentino, Rodolfo Mendoza, Atilano Morada, Errol Pan and Teofilo Lapuz.*GPB
