billing with SLGC win

Bacolod ace shotmaker Anya Tanpinco validated her status as one of the country's finest amateurs as she went on a final-day rampage to rule the 45 th Southern Ladies Golf Championship at the Bacolod Golf and Country Club in Binitin , Murcia , Negros Occidental.

Tanpinco, a double-silver medalist in last year's Southeast Asian Games in Thailand , who represented ICTSI in the tournament, fired a 56, to overcome fast-rising Chihiro Ikeda and Eva Minoza for the title Friday.

It was Tanpinco's second major triumph in seventh months. She also bagged the RP Amateur crown in Iloilo in September last year.

One of Bacolod City 's famous footballing sons will be in charge of the national team when it sees action in the Asian Challenge Cup in Bacolod City in May.

Norman Fegidero Jr., who had a checkered career with the national side, now hopes to create an even greater impact with his appointment as head coach of the team he is set to assemble for the May 11-18 tournament.

A 12-year veteran who has close to 70 appearances with the national side until his retirement in 2001, the 38-year-old Fegidero, currently the coach of West Negros College , was the hands-down choice of the technical director Juan Cutillas, whose recommendation was approved by the PFF technical committee, headed by Mariano Araneta Jr.

Trimaxi booters seize lead
EUROPA-LRY, BACOLOD UTD PLAY TO DRAW

Trimaxi blazed into the top of the table with a 6-1 win over basement squad Los Fubtboleros Sunday in the 2008 Villa Valderrama 9-a-side football tournament at the Villa Valderrama pitch in Bacolod City .

Fean Trebol, Michael Benedicto, Troy Parks , Carlo Torbelo, Eric Gallaga and L.A. Azucena got into the scoresheet as Trimaxi raised its record to 3-wins, 1-loss and a draw for nine points, ahead of erstwhile leader Europa-LRY.

Europa-LRY and Bacolod United dropped one place in the standings after they played to an exciting 2-2 stalemate. The result left Europa-LRY at 8 points on two wins and two draws, while Bacolod United slipped to fourth with a 2-1-1 card for 7 points.
