WOF stays unscathed;
PNO prevails
BY CEDELF TUPAS

World of Fun prevailed in the battle of unbeaten teams Sunday, while Province of Negros Occidental barged into the win column after three games in the Class A division of the Tan Kek Pin Cup Memorial Basketball Tournament at the Po Hang Gym in Bacolod City.

Johnson Salazar and Arnold Laureño joined hands to carry WOF to a 79-76 win over Probac, after Province, led by Frederick Premaylon and Rex Bayer, rallied from 19 points down to pip Bapro, 99-97.

WOF barely survived Probac, which almost overcame a nine-point deficit in the final two minutes and could have forced overtime had Ryan Concha made his triple with 12 seconds left.

Salazar, a former Colegio San Agustin-Bacolod varsity star, posted 7 of his game-high 16 points in the final quarter and got solid support from former West Negros College player Laureño, who pumped in 13.

Robbie Jalando-on, an ex-University of St. La Salle Stinger, gave WOF some breathing room in the third quarter, where he fired all of his eight points for a 63-59 cushion, after halftime ended at 39-all. WOF improved to 2-0, while Probac dropped to 1-1.

Andy Angodung and Concha paced Probac with 13 and 11 points, respectively, while Peewee Demonteverde added 10.

Premaylon and Bayer registered 19 points apiece, while Mark Ramos added 18. It was Bayer who brought Province back into the game, after trailing 32-13 at the end of the opening quarter.

Tommy Andren had 24 points on six triples to lead Bapro, which remained winless in three outings. But he missed a potential game-tying putback in the dying seconds. Teammate GE Quizan added 12, the same output of Matt Deles.

Class B action resumes today with Gentech Atlantic battling BACIWA, while Class A play features Talisay and Probac in the second game. *CPT
