| Bacolod ace shotmaker Anya Tanpinco validated her status as one of the country's finest amateurs as she went on a final-day rampage to rule the 45 th Southern Ladies Golf Championship at the Bacolod Golf and Country Club in Binitin , Murcia , Negros Occidental.
Tanpinco, a double-silver medalist in last year's Southeast Asian Games in Thailand , who represented ICTSI in the tournament, fired a 56, to overcome fast-rising Chihiro Ikeda and Eva Minoza for the title Friday.
It was Tanpinco's second major triumph in seventh months. She also bagged the RP Amateur crown in Iloilo in September last year.
Tanpinco, a former student at the University of St. La Salle and an alumna of St. Scholastica's Academy, finished with a 54-hole total of 160 points. Tanpinco went into the back-nine with a three-under 32 despite a bogey right on the first hole.
Ikeda closed out with 53 points for 159, the same total of Miñoza of Del Monte, but settled for third place after a countback.
Bacolod Golf and Country Club, meanwhile, capitalized on its home-course advantage to capture the team championship by pooling 238 points, beating Victorias Secrets (232) and Young Ones (224).
Local standouts Gaby Monfort and Cara Golez of BGCC turned finished in 2-3 positions in the Class A division, behind Gretchen Villavicencio of ICTSI.
Topping Class B was Queenie Bautista of the Negros Occidental Golf and Country Club, while Sonie Montelibano of Bacolod came from behind to win the Class C title with a 104. NOGCC's Vicky Verdeflor snared the Group D title with an 88.*CPT
