| The Kabankalan City government and the Development Bank of the Philippines yesterday entered into a P508.63-million loan contract for the construction of a road network across the city's various barangays.
The contract was signed by Mayor Pedro Zayco Jr. and Jonathan Teves, head of DBP Regional Management Center , in the presence of Adonica Estores, DBP Kabankalan branch head; Vice Mayor Delia Anacan; and Councilor Raul Rivera, chairman of the committee on infrastructures, and other officials at the rites held at the Sangguniang Panlungsod session hall.
A video presentation of the barangay roads to be constructed in barangays Linao, Tampalon, Tabugon, Tagoc, Pinaguinpinan, Inapoy, Bantayan and Locotan was shown before the contract signing.
City Engineer Roger Diaz, who discussed the background of the project, said 44.54 kilometers of roads will be constructed spanning these barangays.
Zayco said in his message that the DBP increased the loan of Kabankalan on the assurance that its economy is stable and bankable.
He said only P300 million is allocated for road construction. The P200 million will be used for other infrastructures projects the city might undertake.
Zayco said the construction of new roads will boost business transactions and foster closer relations with its neighboring city, Bayawan, and towns of Ayungon, Mabinay and Manjuyod in Negros Oriental.
He also said Kabankalan will soon start the construction of its ultra-modern slaughter and auction house in Brgy. Hilamonan.*NLG
