| Cases of dengue in Bacolod City for January this year exceeded that in January 2007 by five cases, based on the records of the Bacolod City Health Office.

He said last year's record broke the highest recorded number of dengue cases in Bacolod in 1999, although there was no outbreak of dengue. There were 1,500 recorded dengue cases in 1999, he added.
Estrella said that, aside from Bacolod , the cases of dengue have also gone up in Negros Occidental and that, in Manila , it has even increased by 241 percent.
He said the CHO is conducting a year-round education campaign in the barangays, as well as, eliminating all breeding places of mosquitoes to address the problem.
He also said the Anti-Dengue Brigade has been reactivated in the barangays to help in the anti-dengue campaign.
Estrella said the dengue problem needs the cooperation of everybody.
Meanwhile, Estrella also said there was only one death recorded last year in Bacolod City due to rabies, while there was no death recorded in 2006. They are targeting to achieve a “zero case” for this year, he added.*CGS
