IN SAN CARLOS
Firearms confiscated
from warring groups

Two firearms were confiscated by the police from two warring fraternity groups in San Carlos City , Negros Occidental, during the weekend.

Supt. Harold Tuzon who led the simultaneous saturation drives in Brgys. 3, 5, and 6 in San Carlos , said the recovery of two .38 caliber revolvers and two sling shots was made when the two fraternity groups – BLACK GANGSTA and CRIPS – were preparing for a riot.

Police investigations show that the two firearms and slingshots had been thrown by a certain Toto Canete, alias Jason and Bodoy, when the police arrived.

Before the situation aggravates into a full-blown gang war, Tuzon said they are now coordinating with officials of three concerned barangays for the signing of a peace agreement between the two groups.

Police records also showed that the fraternity groups had engaged in three riots last week at the public plaza, Endina and Azcona Streets in San Carlos , that resulted in the shooting and injury of Joeven Cuanhin, a member of the Black Gangsta group, and damages to a vehicle.

The suspect was identified by the police as Janjan Zapanta, a member of CRISP.

Three other .38 caliber revolvers were also confiscated by the police from Rogelio Blanco, Jonas Ledesma and Ruber Deocanis in the cities of Cadiz and Himamaylan, as well as in Isabela, Negros Occidental, police records showed.*GPB

ID requirement at bars proposed

The police yesterday said it will suggest that bars and restaurants in Bacolod City require identification cards from their customers who want to buy liquor, to ensure that minors will not have access to alcoholic drinks in public.

Bacolod City Police Office director, Senior Supt. Ronilo Quebrar, said they will propose that pub and bar owners do the check as one measure to curb the routine entry of teenagers to public drinking places, despite an existing ordinance prohibiting the sale of alcoholic beverages to minors.

The plan is also aimed at preventing bar riots. The police will monitor these business establishments to see if they are following the law, he said.

Bacolod City Ordinance No. 1251 series of 1979 states that only those 18 years old and above can purchase liquor from business outfits.

A 15-year-old boy was taken into custody by the Bacolod Social Development Center for allegedly attacking a fellow patron during a bar fight at People's Village, at 22nd-Lacson streets, in Bacolod Saturday, the police said.*PP
