2 bands advance to finals
 

Marit Larsen Band and Tuneless won in the first weekly finals of the Acoustic Showdown held Sunday at the Fountain Area of Robinsons Place in Bacolod City , a press release from organizers said.

The bands received P3,000 each and will move on to the grand finals on March 8.

Marit Larsen also won the best bossa revival for “Emotions” and the best original composition for “Next to the Fire,” for an additional P2,000.

“Next to the Fire,” a song about missing out on true love, was composed by lead vocalist Elmerjun Hilario, a 20-year-old student of the University of St. La Salle . The band is composed of cousins Elmerjun on vocals/keyboard/violin, John Chris Jara - percussions, Raffy Lagunday - lead guitar, and Hernan Baylon - bass guitar, the press release said.

Meanwhile, Tuneless is a group of high school and college students made up of Mark Ace Galvez on keyboard, Andrew Recabar - beatbox, Jocefin Buyco - vocals, Rheinzstinitz Caler - guitar, and Melvin Colmenares on conga.

The third band, Spitfire, is a group of 15-year-old friends from the Negros Occidental High School and received P1,000 as consolation prize, the press release said.

The next weekly finals will be held Feb. 23. Screening is set tomorrow noon at the fountain area.
