A kagawad of Barangay Cadawinonan, Dumaguete City , and her husband were arrested in a raid on the illegal gambling “Swertres” Thursday night, the police said.

Operatives of the 705 th Provincial Mobile Group led by Chief Insp. Julius Muñez swooped down on the house of the son of kagawad Mercuria Alviola and her husband, Agustin, an alleged coordinator of “Swertres.”

The Alviolas are residents of the Cadawinonan Housing Project, Dumaguete.

Police said the subject of the raid was the house of the suspects' son, Alvin, by virtue of a search warrant issued by Judge Antonio Estoconing of the Metropolital Trial Court of Cities Branch 1, in Dumaguete.

Investigation showed that the couple was caught in the act of tallying combination of the illegal numbers game. Confiscated from them were tally sheets, tips, stubs, ballpens, and P 1,481.75 in bet money.

Kagawad Alviola admitted it is only her husband and her son who operate the illegal numbers game, as coordinator and operation staff, respectively, the police said.

She said that during the raid, she was writing on the tally sheet, as her husband was looking for his eyeglass.

She lamented her failure to advise her husband to stop the illegal business.

The suspects posted bail for the charges of violating Republic Act 9287 filed against them Friday at the City Prosecutor's Office.*RG
