Two killed,
7 injured in mishaps

Two persons were killed and seven injured in two vehicular accidents in Bago City and Valladolid , Negros Occidental, during the weekend, police said yesterday.

Police identified the fatalities as Francis Noel Labayen, 22, and John Ivan Calu-oy, 26, residents of Bacolod City and Sipalay, respectively.

Labayen died at about 5 a.m. yesterday at the Sanitarium Hospital , his father, Francis, 52, reported to the Bago City Police Station.

Police investigations show that the Hyundai Matrix vehicle driven by Labayen figured in a head-on collision with a Ceres Liner passenger bus at the national highway of Brgy. Sampinit, Bago City , at about 1 p.m. Saturday.

Two companions of Labayen identified as Ryan Mapa and Michael Ku were hurt, while four passengers of the bus and its driver identified as Vicente Castellano, suffered minor injures.

Police said Labayen tried to overtake another vehicle when the car he was driving collided with the passenger bus coming from the opposite direction.

Labayen was reportedly a grand nephew of Quezon Bishop Emeritus Julio Labayen.

Calu-oy was also declared dead on arrival at the Valladolid District Hospital after the XRM Honda motorcycle he was driving slammed into the rear portion of a cargo parked at the town highway on Saturday night, police said.*GPB
