Police nab sexagenarian
facing 10 counts of rape

A sexagenarian charged for 10 counts of rape was apprehended by the police during the weekend in Negros Occidental.

Three other were also nabbed for illegal possession of firearms charges, the police said.

Nabbed by virtue of an arrest warrant issued by Judge Anastacio Rufon was Juanito Purillo, 63, in Hacienda San Baldomero, Brgy. Abo-Abo , Murcia , for 10 counts of rape.

Senior Inspector Simeon Gane, Murcia police chief, yesterday said Purillo was charged for the molestation in 2004 of a 17-year-old whose identity is being withheld.

Police records show the molested victim is a relative of Purillo's deceased wife, who had stayed with him for several years.

Gane said Purillo admitted having molested the victim several times. He was denied bail by Rufon, and is now detained at the Murcia Police Station Jail.

Police records also showed that Jonas Ledesma and Ruber Deocanis were arrested yesterday by the police in Isabela town and in Himamaylan City , for illegal possession of firearms.

Senior Inspector Virgilio de la Cruz said a .38 revolver with six ammunition in its chamber, and 10 more extra live bullets and a gun holster were recovered from Deocanis, 31, during his arrest in Hacienda Conchita, Brgy. Camang-Camang, Isabela.

Supt. Armando Tubongbanua also reported the apprehension and recovery of a .38 caliber revolver with four ammunition from Ledesma during a benefit dance in Brgy. Libacao, Himamaylan City .

Another homemade .38 caliber revolver with four bullets was also recovered by the police from Rogelio Blanco, 42, when he was arrested by the police in Brgy. Zone 3, Cadiz City .

Meanwhile, four farmers who are facing murder charges in court, surrendered to Chief Inspector Jefferson Descallar on Saturday after series of negotiations in Brgy. Andres Bonifacio, Cadiz City .

They were identified as Reynaldo and Ronaldo Palomo, and Wilfredo and Wilson Benjamen, all residents of the barangay.

Reynaldo and Ronaldo are relatives of Marcelino Palomo who had been mistaken by Descallar for Romeo Palomo Jr., one of the 20 most-wanted persons in Western Visayas who carries a reward of P60,000 for his arrest, police records showed.*GPB
